Inspired by the book Folding Techniques For Designers, I started folding a bunch of these and decided to turn one of them into a bracelet. I painted it, which added structure as it got wet and dried stiff and then I added a silver clasp... I've posted the folding pattern if anyone is interested in trying it out. The blue lines are valley folds and the green lines are mountain folds. The pattern can be stretched for different variations.
As promised, here is my super amateur tutorial :-) Let me know if you have any more questions.
Hi! What kind of paint did you use?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! ;)
Thank you Escenzia! I used 3 coats of silver spray paint and a final clear lacquer coat to protect it. Also, a good tip is that the thicker the paper is, the more it stiffens when you paint it. Hope this helps and good luck :-) Anne
ReplyDeletei don't understand how to fold could you make a video or something please :)
ReplyDeleteHi Creativegirly, I am working on a video tutorial and will be posting it within the next day or two.
ReplyDeleteHi again, I added a very amateur video tutorial to this post - hope it helps :-) Let my know if you have any other questions.
ReplyDeleteAnne i figured it out! took me like an hour! def. need a video tutorial...
ReplyDeletejust watched the video... so much easier- thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhere do you get clasps?
ReplyDeleteFor this bracelet I just got the clasp at Hobby Lobby, but I also like Fire Mountain Gems and Beads On Fifth.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool!!! I feel like i could make a really cool paintbrush-holder or something using this folding technique. Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeletewhat is the name of the clasps you bought? o.0 I can't seem to find it
ReplyDeleteI can't remember what the clasp brand was called, but as soon as I go back to Hobby Lobby I'll let you know.
ReplyDeleteI finally went back to hobby lobby. The clasp is called glue and slide on clasp by The Jewelry Shoppe.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I make this and try to make it into the bracelet shape the ends want to spiral instead of have a gap between the ends.
ReplyDeleteHi Sierra, I think the paper is too long. You can either try cutting both ends evenly so it leaves the right size gap in between them or stretch the pattern on the paper in Photoshop or similar program. Stretching the pattern lengthwise will make the circle larger and may become to large for a bracelet.
ReplyDeleteSo stylish and thanks for making the video - very helpful! I just shared your link via Facebook and Sulia.
