DIY Project - Origami Bracelet

Inspired by the book Folding Techniques For Designers, I started folding a bunch of these and decided to turn one of them into a bracelet. I painted it, which added structure as it got wet and dried stiff and then I added a silver clasp... I've posted the folding pattern if anyone is interested in trying it out. The blue lines are valley folds and the green lines are mountain folds. The pattern can be stretched for different variations.

As promised, here is my super amateur tutorial :-) Let me know if you have any more questions.

  1. Hi! What kind of paint did you use?
    Gorgeous! ;)

  2. Thank you Escenzia! I used 3 coats of silver spray paint and a final clear lacquer coat to protect it. Also, a good tip is that the thicker the paper is, the more it stiffens when you paint it. Hope this helps and good luck :-) Anne

  12. I can't remember what the clasp brand was called, but as soon as I go back to Hobby Lobby I'll let you know.

  13. I finally went back to hobby lobby. The clasp is called glue and slide on clasp by The Jewelry Shoppe.

  14. Everytime I make this and try to make it into the bracelet shape the ends want to spiral instead of have a gap between the ends.

  15. Hi Sierra, I think the paper is too long. You can either try cutting both ends evenly so it leaves the right size gap in between them or stretch the pattern on the paper in Photoshop or similar program. Stretching the pattern lengthwise will make the circle larger and may become to large for a bracelet.

  17. Hi Anne, I work for an online crafting and DIY community called Kollabora, and we're planning on linking to this post (with appropriate credits, of course) in a blog post that features cool papercraft projects from around the Internet. I just thought I'd take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. Anyone who writes about food, hairstyles and origami has to be a kindred spirit. We at Kollabora would be thrilled if you'd join the site (membership is free) and post some pictures of your work!
